Greetings my name is Captain Ali Al-Khalis I have always loved the ocean, ever since I was introduce to it at the age of five by a giant wave on the big Island of Hawaii. Which swept me out to sea, where I had to learn how to swim and understand rip currents very fast? I survived, at this early age and learned to respect and love the sea and not fight it. With this new found respect I spent a lot of time swimming and surfing in Hawaii. When I moved to Oregon I started my sailing experience, windsurfing and kitesurfing in the Columbia Gorge. I enjoyed this so much I started sailing off the coasts of California and Oregon. When I purchased my current sailing vessel The Lady J, I decided to pack up and sail the Caribbean. I have been doing this for the past 7 years. I have worked as Captain on other sailing vessels as well. These include The Heritage of Miami, an 85 foot gaff rigged top sail schooner and on the last wooden schooner built in the Bahamas the 65 foot WH Albury. I have extensive sailing experience and can teach all levels of sailing and to navigate the high seas. I also enjoy teaching; the local activities, for example like spear fishing, catching local shellfish (Conch) and cleaning them to eat. I am very relaxed and let you learn at your own pace.
I hold a 100 ton United States Coast Guard License. Master of steam, motor or auxiliary sail vessels.
STCW 1995 regulations and commercial assistance towing.
PADI Certified Scuba Diver since 1993
Private Pilots License since 2000
Bachelors of Science from Oregon State University in Sports Medicine 1995
